I really enjoyed this clip. It was short, funny, and the ending was not predictable. Usually a kiss is a good thing, something that, when people are attracted to each other, is desired but this clip brings an unlikely viewpoint to that assumption. In this clip a kiss is desired by one person but is not appropriate for the other.

We see two young people, presumably a boyfriend and girlfriend, who are still getting to know one another and are still very shy around the other. The girl becomes bold and gives the boy a long, passionate, breath-robbing kiss. At the end of it, the boy faints leaving the girl looking disappointed as well a disgruntled. As a young girl myself, I would probably have had the same reaction, yet unbeknown to the viewer of the clip the boy doesn’t faint because the kiss was too much for him and his faint heart but because the kiss literally robbed him of air. He had a stuffed nose, as in the last part of the clip Vicks explains. Vicks was obviously too late for the rescue but if anything the clip shows that a kiss although desired may not be the right thing to do. Darn!

Lastly, the clip is a good example of rhetorical strategies and appeals. Seeing the clip the first times demonstrates that pathos is used for humor and logos is used to explain the story. After watching it a second time and considering what was viewed it is clear that the Vicks advertisement uses narration for the story, and then both illustration, and cause –effect to show how the product affects a person’s life for the better.

Good choice of video :D!
